Whipple Memorial Library where close to 30 students got their hair cut from hairdressers from the Mei Academy of Cosmetology of Brownsville.<\/p>\n<p>Among them were Gilbert Rocha and Caroline Villanueva.<\/p>\n<p>Rocha and Villanueva sat on a chair as workers from the beauty center cut their hair using scissors used in that line of business.<\/p>\n<p>His and her mom said they were glad to have the opportunity to attend the event because it helps them save money.<br \/>\nRocha\u2019s mom brought her three sons to get a haircut, saving her about $30.<\/p>\n<p>Villanueva\u2019s mom said the event helps take off stress.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_8951\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8951\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8951\" src=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_1881.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_1881.jpg 600w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_1881-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-8951\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gilbert Rocha, left, and Caroline Villanueva, get their hair cut during the fair.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Out on the park grounds, hundreds of students and their parents stood in line behind a dozen stations where they received school supplies such as pens, notebooks, coupons, bags and backpacks.<\/p>\n<p>A local heavy metal band called Black Ice played several tunes including songs by Black Sabbath.<\/p>\n<p>Isidra Fernandez, who brought her two sons, said this was their first time at the Night Out.<\/p>\n<p>Asked how she found out about it, she said through the social media outlet Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a pretty good event,\u201d Fernandez said. \u201cThe children received quite a few school supplies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among the many participants were the City of Los Fresnos, Mexican Consulate\u2019s Office from Brownsville, Friendship of Women, Cameron County District Attorney\u2019s Office, Salon &amp; Spa, Behavioral Health Solutions and Los Fresnos Police Department.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Story and photos by Tony Vindell\/LFN Hundreds of students attended the second annual Night Out in Los Fresnos to get supplies for the 2018-19 school year which begins later this month.
