Photo: Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>by Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Construction of a new Los Fresnos City Hall is about to begin.<\/p>\n<p>The ground where the nearly 11,000-square-foot building will be built will be broken on Monday, Oct. 29 during a ceremony held to get the project rolling.<\/p>\n<p>Expected to cost close to $3.4 million, the council had approved a bid submitted by D. Wilson Construction of McAllen during an August meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The bid came in about $1 million over what city officials had anticipated but it was the lowest nevertheless submitted out of a batch of seven companies.<\/p>\n<p>D. Wilson Construction also received the highest rating by a committee in charge in reviewing the qualifications of each company.<\/p>\n<p>Also during the August meeting, the council approved a source of financing for the multi-million-dollar city hall.<\/p>\n<p>The city will use money from its utility services, from the Community Development Corp., the street and drainage department and from deducting money from the low bid for a total of $602,629.<\/p>\n<p>City Manager Mark Milum had said the city\u2019s general fund has a surplus of some $160,000 and it can pump money into some capital projects this year instead of doing it next year.<\/p>\n<p>He also said the city has saved money over the years and it will finance the rest.<\/p>\n<p>A final figure for the project is yet to come after some adjustments are made.<\/p>\n<p>The groundbreaking is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Tony Vindell\/LFN Construction of a new Los Fresnos City Hall is about to begin.
