Area residents have been treated to three festivals this month in Brownsville, making this city one of the Rio Grande Valley busiest when it comes to bringing people together to celebrate some of the things they enjoy.<\/p>\n

The three events \u2013 Beerfest, Octoberfest and Brownsville Latin Jazz Festival \u2013 were held at Market Square, a downtown land mark that has increasingly been converted into a main center of entertaining.<\/p>\n

Thousands of people attended Beerfest held Saturday, Oct. 6 at Dean Porter Park where they had a chance to taste home and commercially made specialty beer, listened to music from several bands and munched on food sold by about a dozen vendors.<\/p>\n

Los Coast of Austin, El Dusty of Corpus Christi and Metalachi of Hollywood, Calif., provided the entertainment as a crowd estimated at some 4,000 went around the park grounds sampling some 140 types of beer.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is fun,\u201d Matamoros resident Gracie Trevino. \u201cI like the music and the ambiance. This is my second year here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sergio Rodriguez, one of the event organizers, said they starting having Beerfest six years ago with the aim of bringing quality entertainment to area residents and from all the Rio Grande Valley as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no need to travel out of this region to enjoy music and food under an atmosphere like this one,\u201d he said. \u201cWe also donate money to a number of non-profit organizations.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino Jr. described the festivals as great for the area.
\n\u201cIt\u2019s great to have things like these,\u201d he said. \u201cIf someone said there is nothing to do here they better think twice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trevino said a lot of happenings are taking place in Brownsville today and the more the better it is for everybody.<\/p>\n

On Oct. 12-14, the 22nd annual Brownville Latin Jazz Festival was held at the Half Moon Salon, Market Square and ended with a street party at Levee Street.<\/p>\n

Hundreds of people attended the festival that featured The Brew, The Clay Moore Group and Henry Brum and Latin Playerz.<\/p>\n

And on Oct. 20, the crowds were treated to Octoberfest 2018 with German-made beer as well as music and dances typical of the European country were part of the celebration.<\/p>\n
