by Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Acting sooner than later is the Community Development Corp. of Los Fresnos new strategy for 2019.<\/p>\n The non-profit organization largely funded by 25 percent of the sales taxes refund the city receives from the state comptroller office has approved spending nearly $40,000 on Christmas-related gadgets like lights and other decorations to make the city prettier and more attractive during the holidays.<\/p>\n The CDC board voted to buy a large tree, three arches and other items during the Feb. 4 meeting. Enrique Juarez, the board president, said the new city hall expected to be built later in the year will benefit from the purchase.<\/p>\n He said the tree and two of the arches will illuminate the building that will be visible from Texas Highway 100.<\/p>\n He said the city already has a sign with flashing lights for drivers to see as they come from town from the west side of the highway and having a spectacle of lights on the other side will help brand the city a lot more.<\/p>\n Irene Romero, a CDC board member, wanted to have one of the arches in front of the city\u2019s park off FM 1847, known here as North Arroyo Boulevard.<\/p>\n Buying the lights was one of several items the board tackled at its regular meeting.<\/p>\n Milum said CDC made revenues of more than $123,000 in 2018 and spend a little more than $41,000 for the year.<\/p>\n \u201cEverything is looking good,\u201d he said. \u201cAs far as the sale taxes, we ended with 12.8 percent above the year before.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" by Tony Vindell\/LFN Acting sooner than later is the Community Development Corp. of Los Fresnos new strategy for 2019.
