Photo: Martin Buitron<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>by Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Food, music and folkloric dancers will be among the many things the public will get to enjoy this Saturday, Feb. 23 in downtown Brownsville.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s because the traditional Baile Del Sol is going to be held on Elizabeth Street.<\/p>\n<p>The event marks the kick off of Charro Days, or one of the city\u2019s oldest and biggest pachangas of the year which now is celebrating its 82nd anniversary for promoting friendship ties between the United States and Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>The Baile del Sol will take place from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. this Saturday at Charro Days headquarters at 455 East Elizabeth St. Admission is free.<\/p>\n<p>Lulu Lieck, the new president of Charro Days Inc., is inviting everybody to the festivity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCome on over to the greatest fiesta on earth,\u201d she said. \u201cWe have a carnival, fiestas mexicanas, Mr. Amigo Association, Sombrero Fest, dances and parades all taking place this weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A week after the Baile del Sol, Charro Days\u2019 three-days of fun and music will begin with the BISD Children\u2019s Charro Days Parade at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28.<\/p>\n<p>Later in the day, people will convene at Washington Park with plenty of food and live music from four bands that will entertain the crowds.<\/p>\n<p>Los Huracanes del Norte will be the main feature.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, Charro Days\u2019 Illuminated Night Parade will take place, beginning at 7 p.m. Live music will go on from 4:30 p.m. through 10 p.m. with as many as 11 bands playing into the night. Bronco will play last.<br \/>\nAnd on Saturday \u2013 Charro Days busiest day of activities, &#8211; the Grand International Parade will start at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Washington Park will turn into a sea of people as scores of activities will be held throughout the day starting at 9 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>Among them are a tug o war, waiters race, tortilla toss, a taco and jalapeno eating contest, as well as a hot wings eating and grito contest will be held.<\/p>\n<p>And don\u2019t forget frijolimpics, an event that brings the best frilojeros competing for top prizes for the best beans a la charra.<\/p>\n<p>This contest takes place under a big tent and anybody is welcome to stop by to check out one of South Texas top frijoles.<\/p>\n<p>For more information please go to: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sombrerofestival.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.sombrerofestival.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Tony Vindell\/LFN Food, music and folkloric dancers will be among the many things the public will get to enjoy this Saturday, Feb. 23 in downtown Brownsville.
