Dora Romero Elementary Award<\/p><\/div>\n
Three Los Fresnos CISD elementary schools have received the Pre-Kindergarten Center for Excellence designation by the Texas Education Agency.<\/p>\n
Las Yescas Elementary, Dora Romero Elementary and Villareal Elementary received plaques and banners in separate presentations by Los Fresnos CISD Superintendent Gonzalo Salazar.<\/p>\n
The Kindergarten Readiness System evaluates the effectiveness of prekindergarten, Head Start, government subsidized, and other community-based child-care programs in preparing children for kindergarten.\u00a0KRS recognizes the positive impact of PreK programs with a \u201cPreK Center of Excellence\u201d designation.<\/p>\n
The PreK Center of Excellence designation is considered a Gold Standard in High Quality PreK by the State of Texas.<\/p>\n
The KRS provides parents with information that helps them make choices about a prekindergarten program and to enable them to select a program that prepares their children to be on grade level upon kindergarten entry.\u00a0The program is voluntary and offered at no charge.<\/p>\n
Every school district is required to electronically report each kindergarten student\u2019s raw score on kindergarten beginning of the year (BOY) reading instruments each year.<\/p>\n
The kindergarten data collected under this provision are used to evaluate the effectiveness of prekindergarten programs and certain federal or government-subsidized child care and education programs under the Kindergarten Readiness System (KRS) formerly known as the School Readiness Certification System (SRCS). School districts and open-enrollment charter schools use the FERPA-compliant web-based reporting system.<\/p>\n
