Photo: Los Fresnos Chamber of Commerce Facebook Community Page<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>by Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The economy of Los Fresnos is showing a healthy trend as the city completed five months into the new fiscal year that began Oct. 1.<\/p>\n<p>City Manager Mark Milum told the board of the Community Development Corp. that the municipality ended the period from October through February with more than 50 percent in state sales tax revenues, or $177,455.<\/p>\n<p>For the month of February, the city received $53,000 from the comptroller\u2019s office, resulting in an increase of 50.4 percent for the same period a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are sitting well here,\u201d he said. \u201cWe are going good in all categories and have a little extra money to spend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CDC gets half percent of the 2 percent the city gets from the state.<\/p>\n<p>Milum said the increase in collections might have something to do with a business that was behind on its payment and had to catch up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will take it,\u201d he said, referring to the money, \u201cand will use it wisely in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Desi Martinez, a consultant for CDC, said a new brochure promoting Los Fresnos will be distributed in a number of strategic places such as area airports, Port of Brownsville and at some of the city\u2019s commercial partners.<\/p>\n<p>He said he has been keeping in contact with potential businesses interested in relocating to this city.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Tony Vindell\/LFN The economy of Los Fresnos is showing a healthy trend as the city completed five months into the new fiscal year that began Oct. 1.
