Local Taekwando Students Place in AAU State Championship in San Antonio
- Updated: May 10, 2019
According to the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) website the AAU has been raising champions for more than a century. The AAU was founded in 1888 to establish standards and uniformity in amateur sport. During its early years the AAU served as a leader in international sport representing the U.S. in the international sports federations.
The AAU worked closely with the Olympic movement to prepare athletes for the Olympic games. In the late 1970’s, the AAU reshifted its focus and efforts to providing sports programs for all participants of all ages beginning at the grass roots level.
Recently three local Taekwando students from the Sun Bae Taekwando Academy placed in the AAU State Championship for Taekwando in San Antonio and thus qualified for the AAU Nationals competitions which will be held in Florida this July.
Between the three students they received two 3rd place awards in the Form category, two 1st place awards and one 2nd place award in the Sparring category. Congratulations to Georgina Gonzalez, Leonel Arevalo, and Charles Frayser and best of luck at Nationals!
