An exposition to teach the public on buying a home, seeking a mortgage, how to fix things without hiring a handyman and many other aspects homeowners go through was held last week in Brownsville.
Dozens of profit and non-profit organizations participated in the expo held Saturday, June 22, at the city’s Events Center on Paredes Line Road.
Brownsville resident Claudia Zarate said she was impressed to see many businesses providing all sorts of information.
“This is something else,” she said as she talked to an insurance representative with Cigna. “I have never been in an expo like this one.”
Carlos Villarreal said he has been coming to the expo for several years because he likes to be up-to-date about home and garden matters.
Gregorio Cardenas, an employee with the Cameron County Housing Authority, was seen showing people how to repair a toilet on their own without calling or hiring a plumber.
“There are certain things people can do,” he said. “Things that can take a few minutes to repair.”
CCHAC was one expo sponsor.
The expo drew dozen of participants, including some of the major hardware stores, banks, realty, mortgage and insurance companies, credit unions and housing development corporations all of which were under one roof.
