Olmito Elementary students received a treat Thursday as University of Texas Rio Grande Valley assistant professor Nikkie Hodgson read her “Ricky the Raindrop” book to all students.
The children’s book is the first for Hodgson, who was visiting her ninth campus since the book published last spring.
She read to all 630 students at OES in two groups – one session for lower grades and the other for upgrades – in the school cafeteria. The students were attentive for the reading of the book, which is on sale at Amazon.
“Ricky the Raindrop” is a heartfelt tale that conveys the power of adventure, relationships and communication. The book follows his adventures around the earth.
Hodgson is an assistant professor of communication studies at UTRGV, a position she has held for several years.
