Lady Falcons swim team rules the pool at regional meet

The Los Fresnos boys and girls swimming teams had a successful weekend at the Class 6A Region VIII championship Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Margaret M. Clark Aquatic Center in Brownsville. In particular, freshman Jada Ashford, who broke records in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events, and earned the meet’s Most Valuable Athlete award.
Ashford’s efforts qualified her for the UIL state swim meet in the 50 free, 100 free, 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard free relay. Her teammates Reiana Apacible, Maria Jimena Treviño and Rebeca Ozuna form the quartet with her on the 200-yard medley relay and Ariana Mancillas, Emily Rodriguez and will join Ashford in the 200-yard free relay.
The state meet is set for Feb. 14-15 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.
The Lady Falcons won their second straight regional championship with 406 points. Meanwhile, the Falco boys finished in seventh place.
