If you are in the market to buy one rose or a bouquet of this popular item this time of year, go to your favorite flower shop.
Here in Los Fresnos, there are a couple of such shops ready to take care of you come Valentine’s Day, which is known in the Hispanic world as Dia del Amor y la Amistad, Dia de San Valentine or Dia de los Enamorados.
Gris Faviola Flower Shop is one of the local shops that caters to a clientele that enjoys giving gifts to others this Feb. 14 and during other important times such as on Mother’s and Father’s Day, high school proms, homecoming and graduation, among other special occasions.
Although she has been selling flowers and other items such as teddy bears and chocolate-covered strawberries since 1994, Faviola opened the business about 10 years ago here in Los Fresnos.
The shop used to be in Brownsville, but she and her family moved to Los Fresnos and reopened it along FM 1575 just north of Texas Highway 100.
“We make floral arrangements of all sizes,” Faviola said. “The same goes with our teddy bears and strawberries packages.”
Faviola said business has been good throughout the years and attributes that to a faithful clientele she has garnered over the years.
“This is a family run business,” she said, while making an arrangement.
“Stop by the shop and check out what we have for Valentine’s Day.”
The red roses Gris Faviola Flower Shop sells are imported from two of the world’s largest producers located in Colombia and Mexico.
Meanwhile, the other flower shop in town is The Flower Gallery, which Amalia Saldivar opened in 1998.
The shop is on First Street along Texas Highway 100.
Saldivar said the roses she sells also come from Colombia and Mexico as well as Ecuador.
