LOS FRESNOS – Things are looking better and better for the Los Fresnos Little League Baseball field.
The latest such improvement for the popular facility is a brand-new fence that was recently.
The Garcia Fence Co. of Brownsville was awarded a contract to replace about 1,800 feet of fence around the field perimeter. That includes two backstop fences behind home plate. These fences are installed to protect the fans against errant pitches and foul balls.
Joe Garcia, whose family owns the fence company, said they began working on the fence about two weeks ago and were expected to finish the job by the end of the month.
The fence improvement project is part of a plan the city council approved to upgrade the baseball field and everything should be completed by this summer. It includes a new irrigation system, controller, soil, trees, compost and new lights.
A company from Edinburg, 1007 Nursery & Garden, and others donated thousands of dollars in materials to make the field as good as it gets once everything is said and done.
During a meeting of Los Fresnos City Council, the administrative body got an update on the project.
“Everything is on target,” City Manager Mark Milum said. “The new grass and sprinkler systems are in, and the park’s new bleachers are to arrive soon.”
