Los Fresnos to have own weather station

LOS FRESNOS – When it comes to forecasting the weather, most people in the Rio Grande Valley get informed through their favorite television station.
But the places that usually get the most coverage are some of the region’s largest cities like Brownsville, Harlingen and McAllen.
Some smaller cities and towns like South Padre Island, Raymondville, Rio Grande City and others also get their share from weather forecasters. But how often do people hear about today’s or tomorrow’s weather conditions in Los Fresnos?
Hardly ever.
Tom Jones, a board member with the Community Development Corp., has been looking into that by telling the board this town along Texas Highway 100 needs better representation.
So a couple of months ago he presented a plan to the board calling for the installation of a weather station inside city hall.
He said weather reports for other Valley cities are constantly on the news, but nothing about Los Fresnos. Thanks to his determination, however, this is about to change as EDC has approved a request to invest money for buying a station that will soon be installed inside city hall.
In other action, the CDC approved allocating $1,500 for a landscaping project at David Armendariz All State Insurance Agency business. The cost of the project is $5,000 but EDC funds 50 percent which is in accordance with its policy of helping out the business community.
