A company that provides home health services to residents from Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy counties took the one and only prize in the first ever drive-thru Halloween Festival contest held recently.
Amazing Grace Primary Home Care was selected as the winner out of 22 stations set up to hand goody bags, candies and other items during the event held on Oct. 31.
Javier Cavazos, one of the home care owners, said they were thrilled for taking the prize.
“It’s exciting to win this contest,” he said, “but the real winners were the kids who came to the festival.”
The festival took place on the grounds of the Los Fresnos Rodeo and it was the first time it was relocated from the city’s Memorial Park off North Arroyo Boulevard.
The reason behind the change of place was due to the pandemic so everybody could keep a safe distance rather than having a place packed with people as it usually happens in years’ past.
On Tuesday, Nov. 10, representatives of the local home health care business met at Los Fresnos City Hall to receive a basket filled with items donated by Walmart.
City Manager Mark Milum and Val Champion, the chamber executive director, were on hand to hand over the winning prize.
Champion said they counted some 600 vehicles that showed up.
“We estimated more than 1,000 children received candies and goody bags,” he said. “It was a great event that happened because of a team effort by the city, the chamber, the Community Development Corp. and Los Fresnos Rodeo Committee.”
