Los Fresnos High School Commencement 2013
- Updated: June 20, 2013
About 630 students walked across the stage at the Los Fresnos High School Commencement ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at Leo Aguilar Memorial Stadium.
The total graduates included 67 students who completed requirements for graduation in December.
Past Commencement ceremonies had the stage facing the 5,000 seats on the home side of Leo Aguilar Memorial Stadium, but the crowd overflowed past the seating areas.
To accommodate the crowd, district administration decided to modify the stage and seating diagram. For the first time, the back of the stage was near the south end zone goalposts and near the video scoreboard. Seating on both sides of the stadium was used for the first time. The ceremony was videotaped and shown on the video screen at the stadium.
Nine of the top 10 graduates had small speaking or singing parts at the ceremony.
Those top nine students and their speaking roles were:
- Valedictorian Alexis Garcia: Class Poem and Aspirations
- Salutatorian Scott Urbis: Reflections
- Jacob Boles: Pledge of Allegiance
- Abby Magdaleno: Appreciation
- Dulce Guardado: Presentation of Guests
- Samantha Jo Rodriguez: Alma Mater
- Ruby Saenz: Farewell
- Abigail Gomez: Challenge
- Diana Cabrera: Welcome
Dozens of students who were receiving scholarships were also recognized. At the 2012 Commencement, the total amount of scholarships exceeded $12.4 million.
The Falcon Concert Band and Mariachi Halcón also performed.
