Deal to Have Book Signing Event at Los Fresnos
- Updated: August 9, 2013
Longtime newsman Jerry Deal will sign copies of his recently published children’s book, “Famous Dog Chowski,” at the Children’s Fun Day and Back to School Bash at Los Fresnos Ethel L. Whipple Memorial Library and Community Park on Friday, Aug. 16.
The event, co sponsored by the United Way of Cameron County and the Workforce of Cameron County, will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
“I want to be a part of efforts to get youth to reading more and hope this will be interesting enough to help in that,” Deal said.
“Also, I am very attached to Los Fresnos and am glad for this opportunity to participate in the fun day and back to school bash,” he said.
Proceeds from sale of the books at the event will go to the United Way.
Although Deal has written and edited scores of articles for newspapers and magazines, this is his first children’s book.
“If it goes well, I have some ideas for a sequel,” Deal said. He also is working on an autobiography, he said.
He was editor-publisher of The Leader of Los Fresnos for more than three years and later wrote news articles for the Los Fresnos News and the Rio Hondo News, as well as for the La Feria News.
