- Updated: August 9, 2013
Los Fresnos has first their ‘World Series’ Champion! Los Fresnos Pony Softball and Baseball teams find success at National Tournaments. Los Fresnos Pony League sent 5 teams deep into tournament play this summer with the girls softball teams competing in Burleson,Tx and the 11-12 year old boys playing in Erath LA.
The Los Fresnos 13-14 year old girls, Los Fresnos Thunder captured 1st place in their 20 team tournament and went undefeated the entire tournament to capture the first ‘World Series’ title for Los Fresnos Pony League. They captured the win over Medina Valley in a tight 4-3 win with Vivikah Pesina scoring the winning run from third on Mirella Guevarra’s sacrifice bunt (for video of winning play visit Los Fresnos PONY Leauge on facebook.
The 7-8 year old girls coach pitch team, Los Fresnos Valley Heat, also had a good showing finishing in the top 8 from a field of 19 teams.
The 12U boys baseball team, Los Fresnos Titans had a runner-up finish at the South Zone Super Regional tournament in Laredo. The second year in a row finishing as the runner-up competing with teams from Austin, San Antonio, Coastal bend, Laredo and the RGV which qualified them for the Zone tournament against teams from Texas, Louisiana and Florida. This was their second trip in a row to the South Zone tournament. Last year they traveled to Tampa Florida but didn’t make it out of 1st round. This year, in 2013, the Los Fresnos Titans came out strong and advanced to the final 4 teams falling to 2012 World Series Champion, Tamiami, Florida. Just google the Tamiami youth baseball league to get a feel of what type of program they have and the list of MLB players that have played there. In the Semifinal game, your Los Fresnos Titans held on to a 1-0 lead to the 4th inning but Tamiami came back to capture the win and advanced to the World Series tournament in California where they face Puerto Rico.
Not a bad year for the 6 year old Los Fresnos Pony Softball and Baseball league. Congratulations Los Fresnos!
