The Los Fresnos High School NJROTC has been designated as the 2014 Best Unit in Texas by the U.S. Navy League.

The Unit was chosen for the prestigious designation for its outstanding drill teams, physical fitness, academic teams, and community service.
Ten former cadets, including 2014 LFHS graduate Lydia Bonney, have received appointments to the Naval Academy since the inception of the program in 2003.

“This is a great honor for Los Fresnos High School and the NJROTC program,” Naval Science instructor Chief Carlos Marquez said. “I am proud of the outstanding way the cadets represent the community and the school district.”

The LFHS Corps of Cadets accumulates about 5,000 hours of community service each year.

Officers for 2014-15 are Cadet Lt. Commanders Roque Villafranca, Taylor Loop, Johelen Garcia, Emma Rapavi and Jose Longoria.
The honor marks the ninth straight year that the Falcon Unit has received the Distinguished Unit with Academic Recognition from the Commander, Naval Education and Training Command.

The LFHS NJROTC program emphasizes citizenship and leadership development. Students in the program are driven to stay actively involved in the school and community, and are committed to living up to the highest standards of character and ethical values to bring positive recognition to the community, school district, school and unit.
