BROWNSVILLE—The Lady Falcon volleyball team continued their winning ways, sweeping to two victories over the past week over district foes, Brownsville Hanna and Brownsville Lopez.  Los Fresnos traveled to the Hanna gym for the first time this year and defeated the third-place Lady Eagles 25-14, 25-22, 25-19, and the Lady Lobos faired no better, getting dominated by scores of 25-10, 25-9, 25-12.  With these two victories in the books, the Lady Falcons move to 8-0 in district play (28-9 overall) and maintain their one-game lead over Brownsville Veterans and their overall #1 Rio Grande Valley ranking, as per RGVSports.com.

The Lady Falcons and Lady Eagles traded points for the first part of the initial set, and after a Jackie Kingsbury kill, the score was 12-12.  Kingsbury’s kill seemed to spark the Lady Falcons, as they put on a devastating display of volleyball for the remainder of the first set, finishing with a 13-2 rally to take the first set.  Hanna re-grouped and played hard against the Lady Falcons in Set #2, rallying to tie the score at 22 before Coach Becky Woods called a time out to re-group.  After the time out, the Lady Falcons proceeded to put down three straight kills to take the second set.  The third set was more of the same, with the Lady Falcon attackers spiking balls down point after point as the Lady Falcons cruised to a comfortable straight-set victory.

Peyton Sales led the way with 31 assists, 2 kills, and 3 aces, and distributed the ball all over the court to her teammates.  The Lady Falcons had four hitters with double-digit kills, led by Joseline Caraveo (13), Kingsbury (12), and Alex Cano and Sam Ibarra with 10 each.  Alex Moya was tremendous along the back row, contributing 24 digs during the match and making pinpoint passes to the setters.  It was a great road win for the Lady Falcons against a fellow playoff team from District 32-6A.

Later that week, the second round of district play began with a road contest against Brownsville Lopez.  The Lady Falcons made quick work of the Lady Lobos, with all 12 members of the Varsity getting plenty of playing time during this match.  Jordan Martinez led the Lady Falcons with a personal season-high 9 kills on the evening, and the rest of the squad contributed to the victory as well.  Sales added another 24 assists to her growing season total, and Caraveo and Ibarra controlled the net, as always.  Freshman Gisele Ibarra and Sophomore Cassie Parra both had kills in the third set, and they showed the Lady Falcon crowd that their will be plenty more talent in the Lady Falcon volleyball program in the coming years after this latest senior class exits.  Congratulations, Lady Falcons!

The Lady Falcons move their overall record to 28-9, 8-0 in district, and they maintain their one-game lead over Brownsville Veterans.  There are six more district games remaining, so come out and support the Lady Falcons!
