LOS FRESNOS—During every season, there are matches that are tougher than expected. The Lady Falcons experienced two of those matches this past week, but passed both tests with gritty play and great teamwork. Los Fresnos went on the road to face the Lady Cardinals of Harlingen High School, and they came away with a tight 25-21, 25-19, 25-21 straight-set victory. Later that week, the Lady Falcons hosted Rivera, and the Lady Raiders kept it close before also succumbing in straight sets, 25-12, 25-20, 25-22.

The Lady Falcons move to 12-0 in district play (32-9 overall) as their long regular season winds down to a close. A huge game looms against second-place Brownsville Veterans, only one game behind the Lady Falcons in the district standings. Los Fresnos maintains their overall #1 Rio Grande Valley ranking for the fifth week in a row, as per RGVSports.com.

Joseline Caraveo, a junior, was a constant offensive force during both of the Lady Falcons games this week, notching 19 kills against Harlingen and a team-leading 13 kills against Rivera on only 16 hitting attempts. Caraveo was dominant, as the Lady Cardinals and the Lady Raiders had no answer for her attacks in the middle. The other half of the “Twin Towers”, junior Sam Ibarra, was just as dominant on the defensive side, accumulating a total of 12 blocks between the two games. Peyton Sales and Miranda Gonzales continued their stellar work, setting the ball to the Lady Falcon outside and middle hitters, while keeping everyone involved. Sales had 23 assists against Harlingen and 20 against Rivera, while Gonzales contributed 18 assists and 12 assists, respectively.

The UIL State Volleyball Playoffs will begin on November 3-4, and the Lady Falcons future first-round opponent from District 31-6A has yet to be determined.
