CISD Robotics Competition Held Saturday, December 6th
- Updated: December 17, 2014
Three months of preparation will have been put to the test at the Los Fresnos CISD Robotics Competition this past Saturday at Resaca Middle School.
This year’s theme was titled “Food Frenzy” and was designed around the theme of food, growing food, and harvesting food.
Thirty-one teams from the nine elementary schools were registered in the Elementary Division. Nine teams from the three middle schools comprise the Middle School Division. Los Fresnos High School and Los Fresnos United will have been represented by two teams each in the High School Division.
Rancho Verde Elementary School was the defending elementary division champion this year.
The district competition is a preliminary meet for the Texas Computer Educators Association (TCEA) Area Competition, scheduled Jan. 24, 2015, at Edinburg Vela High School.
At last year’s area competition, Laureles Elementary placed second at area and qualified to the state competition in Deer Park.
The group was the first Los Fresnos CISD team to qualify for state in robotics. The Laureles team is coached by first grade teacher Angela Dunkin and Physical Education teacher Leo Robles.
The 2014-15 TCEA Mindstorms Robotics Challenge is based on the LEGO brand Mindstorms robotics platform. The TCEA’s mission is the improvement of teaching and learning through the use of computers and technology.
Each year teams of students, sponsored by members of TCEA, receive a set of challenge rules and specifications designed around a theme that varies from year to year. Teams compete against one another in head-to-head competition through regional and state level play.
