Stars Dancers to Perform in Citrus Bowl Halftime
- Updated: December 26, 2014
Seven members of the Los Fresnos High School Stars Dance team will be performing at halftime of the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl Jan. 1 in Orlando, Fla.
Last summer, the entire Stars team participated in an All-American Dance camp at Resaca Middle School. Camp directors and choreographers who recruit for the bowl game offered 22 invitations, and seven were able to raise funds to attend.
The seven will be part of a group of about 200 dancers who will wear the same outfits and do a pom routine at halftime of the game between the University of Minnesota and the University of Missouri. Kickoff is at noon Central time on New Year’s Day.
“Only certain girls were invited to participate,” said Melissa Lopez-Shears, Stars sponsor. “Most girls who were invited decided that they would try to go their senior year to make it more memorable, it is an experience they will never forget.”
Making the trip are seniors Cristine Castillo, Fabiola Cuellar, Julia Farrar, Jackeline Guerra and Debra Magallanez, sophomore Samantha Atherton and freshman Valeria Henderson.
The group leaves Sunday, Dec. 28, and returns Jan. 2.
In previous years, dance teams from Los Fresnos High School have been invited to perform at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York and the Citrus Bowl in Florida.
