The City of Los Fresnos has been named as one of thirty three cities in the state of Texas to receive the Texas Comptroller’s highest recognition for financial transparency.
For the third year, Los Fresnos was awarded the Platinum Leadership Award.
Los Fresnos is one of only two cities in the Valley to receive the Platinum level of this award. The staff scored 22 out of 23 possible points to qualify.
There are four possible recognition levels awarded by the Texas Comptroller, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum based on an agency’s compliance with the Comptroller’s standards of transparency.
To keep its designation, the City of Los Fresnos must resubmit an application annually. To receive the Platinum designation, the city must, among other things, have its budgets, its check registers, its auditor’s annual reports, official’s contact information, and other requirements posted online for simple and easy access by the public.
“The City is very adamant about our being transparent and the we do being an open book, being transparent is key to having the trust of our citizens and the award indicates that we actually live by that ” commented City Manager Mark Milum.
He added that the city is so transparent that the public can see every check written and who it is written to. The award was given out at the regular meeting of the commission Tuesday, May 12.
In addition, for the seventh straight year, the city received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association.
