Strength to Overcome
- Updated: September 25, 2015
We’ve all experienced difficulties and heartache in life, when we experience something very traumatic it is absolutely normal and healthy to take time to recover. However, there will come a time when we have to find the strength to pick ourselves up and begin moving forward again for our health.
I’d like to share the testimony of Alicia De Leon. Alicia is a vibrant 57 year old woman that lives in the City of Los Fresnos. Alicia is a very active participant of the City of Los Fresnos Community Health Outreach Program. She begins her morning at the Los Fresnos Memorial Park at 7am alongside two of her very good friends Maria Gonzalez and Carmen Azocar the ladies power walk/jog for one hour or 4 miles every morning before attending the 8:30am exercise classes 5 days a week.
Alicia is known as the energizer bunny of the group, she is constantly asking for more! She asks for more classes, more time per class and more challenges. Her very positive and motivating attitude encourages the participants and instructors to work hard every day, and to do it with a smile.
Something most people aren’t aware of, is that Alicia De Leon became a widow at the early age of 34. She shared her testimony with the Tu Salud Si Cuenta campaign recently. Alicia’s husband was 36 years old when he suffered a massive heart attack. Both Alicia and her husband shared the same type of secondary lifestyle.
Alicia knew she had to make positive lifestyle changes so that she could be around for her children and grandchildren. She made the decision to become healthy and active for her family and began eating healthier and exercising. Through her journey Alicia understood the importance of maintaining a healthy active lifestyle, what she didn’t know was that she would be part of encouraging an entire community. Alicia is truly an amazing role model in the City of Los Fresnos and her story of strength is one that inspires the participants including myself.
