Homecoming Football Game Will Include Throwback Traditions

There will be a few wrinkles in the traditional Homecoming football game when Los Fresnos hosts Brownsville Hanna at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at Leo Aguilar Memorial Stadium.

Most large high schools in Texas started using inflatable helmets or mascots about 10-15 years ago for their football teams to run through at the start of the game and second half. They inflatables replaced the older run-through signs made out of butcher paper.

The LFHS senior and junior classes are bringing back the run-through sign tradition for Homecoming. After coming out of their inflatable tunnel, the Falcons will charge through the paper signs to start each half.

Former Falcon cheerleaders are also invited to participate. Some cheerleaders have already been contacted, and they will participate in the introduction of cheerleaders to before the start the game at about 7:10 p.m. The alumni cheerleaders will also participate in the pre-game Hello cheer.

During halftime presentation of the Homecoming Court, the LFHS Marching Band will form the numbers “100” in celebration of the centennial anniversary of the district’s first school in 1915. Following the presentation, the band will then form the letters “LF” while playing the fight song.

The announcement of the Homecoming Court will also feature alumni Homecoming Queens. Several former queens will be introduced and will participate in the crowning of the 2015 Homecoming Queen.

A contingent of classmates from the Los Fresnos High School Class of 1965 are also planning to attend.

After the game, LFHS seniors in the Class of 2015 will march around the track in the traditional senior walk. They will be followed by the Class of 1965 which also plans to walk around the track to celebrate their golden anniversary.

Former cheerleaders and Homecoming Queens interested in participating should contact the LFHS Communications and Marketing Office at 254-5098.
