New Rural Area for USDA Housing Programs Surrounding Los Fresnos, TX

TEMPLE, TEXAS – Based upon the Agricultural Act of 2014 (Farm Bill), communities which were partially ineligible, expands eligibility for rural housing programs. USDA will now accept applications for housing assistance for home construction, purchase, and repair throughout Los Fresnos, Texas and nearby unincorporated subdivisions.
USDA Rural Development housing programs include:
• Section 502 Guaranteed Single Family Housing Loans – home loans originated by approved mortgage lenders to offer qualified moderate income households with affordable home loan financing through a loan guarantee from USDA Rural Development.
• Section 502 Single Family Direct Home Loans – 100% affordable, fixed-rate home loans made by USDA to low- and very low-income households.
• Section 504 Home Improvement/Repair Loans and Grants – loans and grants to help very low-income rural homeowners to remove health and safety hazards, finance home improvements, and make homes accessible for people with disabilities in an owner-occupied dwelling.
• Section 523 Self Help Housing Technical Assistance Grants – grants to nonprofit organizations to provide technical assistance and supervise groups of very-low- and low-income individuals and families as they construct their own homes in rural areas. The group members provide most of the construction labor on each other’s homes, with technical assistance from the organization overseeing the project.
