Los Fresnos Resident Recognized for Selfless Action
- Updated: December 28, 2015
The City of Los Fresnos took time during the city council meeting held on December 15, 2015 to recognize Los Fresnos resident Ruben Linan for his selfless and heroic actions on the morning of Sunday, November 29. Around 5 a.m. that Sunday morning a 2006 Chevy pickup with two people inside crashed into a resaca on Henderson Road. Linan, who lives near the scene of the accident, heard the commotion and then immediately got dressed to go render aid. When Mr. Linan arrived at the scene he witnessed one man struggling to swim to safety. Linan did not hesitate to go into the resaca to pull the man to safety. As he did so Linan heard another man, the passenger, struggling for air and splashing water. Linan went back into the resaca to help but the man had gone under before Linan could get to him. Los Fresnos Police, Fire and EMS departments arrived on the scene to provide care for the men and begin the search for the missing passenger. The passenger’s body has since been recovered. The city council wished to publicly thank Mr. Ruben Linan for his selflessness and heroism as he risked his own life to render aid in the moments prior to emergency personnel arriving at the scene.
