- Updated: September 2, 2016
The Valley Environmental Coalition will be hosting the 7 th Annual Valley Environmental Summit on Friday, September 23, 2016. This year’s Summit “Environmental Stewardship in the Rio Grande Valley” will be held at the South Padre Island Convention Centre located at 7355 Padre Blvd, South Padre Island.
The Summit will feature a Legislative Update, breakout sessions to include Land and Environmental Conservation, Energy and Water, and Solid Waste. Last year’s Summit drew 265 attendees including middle and high school students. This year’s event will once again feature a “trashion show” presenting beautifully designed clothing made solely out of recycled materials created by students from valley schools.
A video film and art contest will also be featured. The video film contest which is open to all valley high school students will be “Sustainable Future: Be an Eco Star”. The art contest theme is “Connect 4: Air, Water, Land & Life” and is open valley wide for students pre-K to 8th grade. Representative Eddie Lucio III, will be on hand to award the student winners from the video and art contest. Please log on to our website for contest rules and entry forms.
This year’s Summit will culminate with a Beach Cleanup to be held on Saturday, September 24th from 9am to 12noon. Volunteers should register on-line and meet at Clayton’s Beach Bar & Grill.
The Valley Environmental Summit is held to bring together the general public, political leaders, neighborhood associations, nonprofits, businesses, and students. Attendees will come together to identify environmental problems and come up with solutions to those issues impacting the quality of life and environment in communities throughout the valley.
The Valley Environmental Coalition is a 501c3 organization whose mission is to create a venue where attendees can come together and highlight the most important environmental issues. The events are free to participants, however, registration is required. We encourage you to register to attend the Summit or Beach Cleanup at www.valleyes.us
