The Los Fresnos Area Chamber of Commerce would like to remind all local Birders to register as soon as possible for the upcoming 23rd Annual RGV Birding Festival scheduled for November 2, 2016 at Municipal Auditorium located at 1204 Fairpark Blvd in Harlingen.

The Birding Festival offers many opportunities for birding via field trips such as the “Breakfast with the birds at the Inn at Chachalaca Bend” field trip with field trip coordinators Neil Hayward and Steve Shunk Fee who will guide you as you view the many species of birds that our area has to offer.

Local birding guide Michael Marsden of Valley Birders of San Benito will also be available for guided tours of the area. For more information about registering for the birding festival please visit and register at RGVBF.org

Cameron County is reported to have the largest availability of bird species in the State of Texas and the majority of those species being found mainly in the Los Fresnos and surrounding area.

Some of the species available to birders at the Inn at Chachalaca Bend are Black-bellied Whistling-Duck, Mottled Duck, Plain Chachalaca, Neotropic Cormorant, Black-crowned and Yellow-crowned Night-Herons, Buff-bellied Hummingbird, Golden-fronted Woodpecker, Great Kiskadee, Black-crested Titmouse, Altamira Oriole.
