Area Bus Drivers Compete in Regional Road-E-O
- Updated: May 5, 2017
by Ronnie Zamora/LFCISD
Bus drivers from 11 school districts across the Rio Grande Valley competed Saturday in the South Texas Association of Pupil Transportation (TAPT) Regional Road-E-O at the Los Fresnos CISD Transportation Center.
The drivers competed in two written and 10 driving exams, which resembled an obstacle course that tested their skills.
Participating were bus drivers from Donna, Edinburg, La Joya, Los Fresnos, McAllen, Mercedes, Mission, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, San Benito, Sharyland and South Texas school districts.
There were two divisions – conventional and transit. The transit buses have a flat front and the engine the the back. They are longer than conventional buses with more seating so there is a different turning radius.
The top three drivers in each division qualify to participate in the state Road-E-O to be held in Frisco in June. Qualifiers include:
Transit Buses
Roberto Hernandez, La Joya ISD
Roberto Vela, La Joya ISD
Carlos Escamilla, La Joya ISD
Conventional Buses
Sam Garcia, McAllen ISD
Adrian Martinez, South Texas ISD
Elizando Muñiz, La Joya ISD
