Highest LFHS Academic Achievers Recognized

The best and brightest from Los Fresnos High School were recognized at the annual Student Academic Achievement Banquet Tuesday at the Brownsville Events Center.
The top 10 percent of students from the junior and senior classes at LFHS were recognized by Stumbaugh, Superintendent Gonzalo Salazar and members of the Board of Trustees. The students were escorted by their parents or family members to receive their medals.
Stumbaugh and the other four administrators at LFHS presented their Golden Apple awards to students who made impacts on administrators during their years at the school. Presenters and their recipients were:
- Stumbaugh: Ernesto Lopez
- Dean of Instruction Jeaneva Scoville: Alicia Rodriguez
- Assistant Principal Mary Esther Alvarez: Arturo Beltran
- Assistant Principal Cris Saldaña: Jose Aleman
- Assistant Principal Victor Monreal: Cinay Garcia
Stumbaugh also described some of the accomplishments of LFHS students including:
- Seven National Merit Hispanic Scholars from senior class
- 12 possible National Merit Hispanic Scholars from the junior class
- One National Merit Scholar candidate
- 14 AP Scholars – a 3 or higher on three more exams
- Two AP Scholars with Honors – a a 3 or higher on four or more exams
- One AP Scholar with Distinction – a 3 or higher on five or more exams
- 88% of students have applied for postsecondary education
- 78% of students have completed and applied for financial aid
- 16 million in scholarship offerings from colleges and universities
