Groups Recognized, Teacher Hired at Special Meeting

The last of student groups to be recognized for the 2016-17 school year were presented at the Los Fresnos CISD Board of Trustees meeting Monday, May 22nd.
Members of the Los Fresnos High School/Los Fresnos United UIL Academics teams was recognized by the board for their achievements. LFU won the District 32-6A UIL Academics Freshman division championship.
The LFHS baseball team, which also won a district championship, was also presented.
There was one teacher hire approved – Sherryl Quelhorst as an English teacher at Los Fresnos High School. Trustees also approved the administrative staff contract recommendations.
Trustees also received a report about a Request for Proposals process pertaining to a Food Service Management Service. Under the Action Items part of the meeting, trustees awarded the agreement/contract for CSP #16-17-31, Food Service Management company, to Southwest Foodservice Excellence (SFE) for a one-year cost reimbursable contract with the option to renew on an annual basis for an additional four years, subject to regulatory approval.
In action on the Consent Agenda, trustees approved:
- agreements/contracts for Student Accident Insurance with National Guardian Life and Student Accident Insurance (Catastrophic) with Zurich American, Texas Insurance Service Center, Albert Salinas – Agent, for the 2017-18 School Year.
- renewal of agreement for the external auditor services with Patillo, Brown and Hill, L.L.P. for fiscal years 2017 and 2018.
- voluntary employee benefit provider Willis Parsons for life events legal plan and identity theft shield for 2017-18 school year.
- declaration that certain district vehicles are surplus and authorize administration to Dispose of Said Vehicles as Appropriate.
- Nomination of Jesus Amaya for the Region I Position A seat on the TASB Board of Directors.
- Revisions to (LOCAL) policies as recommended by TASB Policy Service and according to the Summary recommendations based on the TASB Localized Policy Review Session held January 24, 2017.
- Agreement between Los Fresnos CISD and AMIKids Rio Grande Valley for the 2017-18 school year.
