LOS FRESNOS, TX – On Friday, June 9, 2017, AEP Texas officials, local dignitaries and special guests “turned the dirt” in a ground breaking ceremony for a new, $12.3 million service center facility in Los Fresnos, Texas.
The Los Fresnos Service Center will house 20 employees. The new 32,350 square feet facility will be located at 29636 FM 1847 on 15 acres in Los Fresnos. The building’s design is designated U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Certified.
Judith E. Talavera, AEP Texas president and chief operating officer, said the company is excited about the opportunity to continue providing safe and reliable service from a new state of the art facility.
“The Rio Grande Valley continues to be one of the fastest growing areas within our service footprint,” Talavera said. “Building this new service center will give our employees and the community an improved, more resilient facility that will allow us to continue addressing the future economic growth of the area.”
Tom Coad, AEP Texas vice president of Distribution Region Operations, said he is pleased with the new location because it provides a significant upgrade from the existing facilities and it will enhance the company’s operations.
“This site provides multiple entry points to our service center and will allow these employees in the east end of the Valley to work in one location,” Coad said. “This will be extremely valuable for storm restoration purposes while offering the possibility of future expansion as the Valley grows.”
The state of the art facility is expected to be completed by May 2018.
