New Poster for Los Fresnos Rodeo Bucks the Market

The new poster announcing the 2017 Los Fresnos Rodeo is out and the 29th annual event keeps getting bigger and better.
The 11-by-17-inch poster marks the kick off of the rodeo and concert scheduled to be held Feb. 16, 17 and 18.
Control, a Houston-based group that bills itself as Los Reyes de la Cumbia (The Cumbia Kings), will play at 10 p.m. Friday, Feb, 16th at the arena while Kevin Fowler will do so at 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17. Fowler is a singer-songwriter who has released five studio albums and he is best known for a top 40 hit “Pound Sign.”
Mike Todd and George Gomez, chair and vice chair of the rodeo committee, are inviting people to come on over and enjoy the activities.
“We will be having a great rodeo,” Todd said. “We will have a lot of things for everybody to enjoy.”
He said a banana derby in which monkeys riding on dogs will compete during six races, two on Friday and four each on Saturday and Sunday during the rodeo.
Gomez said a Winter Texans Day to honor the winter visitors who come here this time of year will be Sunday.
A special discount on a beverages will be given out to the retirees and a blue grass band will provide entertainment.
Gomez said the artisans market is another new activity going on this year.
A rodeo parade will start at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17.
The parade, usually held the first day of the rodeo, was moved to Saturday to allow students from the local school district to participate.
Tickets for the rodeo are on sale at Los Fresnos City Hall, Boot Jack stores in Brownsville and McAllen and at the Stitch Gallery in Harlingen.
A ticket bought at city hall has a $2 discount.
