Villareal Elementary all-girls Invention Team came home with a third-place trophy at the 2018 Texas Computer Education Association Region Robotics Competition Saturday in Edinburg.
Team members Abigail Arredondo, Jadelynn Cortez, Andrea Lopez, and Audrey Ramirez invented an Ice-Me Bot, a cookie icing robot. They were dressed in aprons for the competition.
Their third-place finish out of 48 entries in the Inventions division may earn them a spot in the TCEA State Contest April 7 at a location to be determined. First- and second-place finishers from area contests, along with wild-card recipients from each of the 20 areas of Texas, advance to the state contest. There is a chance that the VES team could be chosen as a wild-card recipient.
Teacher coaches are Lupita Escobar, Dawn Osborn and Melissa Shafer.
Several Los Fresnos CISD teams took part in the Arena Division, where 144 teams participated. None placed among the top three in their division.
