A small but nevertheless important donation was given to the Friends of the Library Program by the local chapter Catholic Daughters of the Americas Father Thomas Billimek Court 2425.
The non-profit organization gave a check for $200 to help the Ethel L. Whipple Memorial Library to carry its spring break activities set for March 12-18.
Andrea Gonzales, the CDA advisor, said one of the goals of their organization is to help the community.
“I made a suggestion to help out the library,” she said, referring to a meeting they held recently. “It may not be that much but this will help.”
She said CDA was founded here in 1996 with a few members and they now have 23.
The money they make comes from one fundraising event they have every year.
CDA has donated money to such organizations like Juan Diego Colonia in Cameron County, Habitat for Humanity, to area churches and it also has its own scholarship program.
