Students Show Off Their Talents at TED-Ed Showcase

Los Fresnos CISD TED-Ed club students presented on stage before Tuesday at Dora Romero Elementary School, sometimes telling emotional stories that tugged at the heartstrings of parents and school administrators in the audience.
The TED-Ed Showcase was a collaboration between students at DRE, Los Fresnos United, and Los Fresnos High School. Thirteen Los Fresnos CISD TED-Ed club members presented their TED style talks over a subject they are passionate about. Some have been preparing for the Showcase since the school year began in August.
Many students expressed their love for dancing, drawing, or music, while others spoke about more serious topics such as Autism and animal destruction.
Los Fresnos CISD is the first school district in the Rio Grande Valley to host a TED-Ed clubs showcase where student voice is presented to the community. There are currently about 100 students across all secondary campuses and three elementary schools – DRE, Los Fresnos Elementary and Villareal Elementary.
“I was very impressed with how well the students performed live,” said Alejandra Guzman, Secondary Science Specialist. “I was a little nervous that they might get cold feet. The students rose above my expectations and knocked it out of the ballpark. I am looking forward to see what ideas the future TED-Edsters of Los Fresnos have to share.”
Students were presented on stage and their topics were:
- Judy Mire, DRE: The Power of Ballet
- Lexi Redner, DRE: All Drawings Are Beautiful
- Emily Henao, DRE: The Art of Anime
- Anahi Aza, DRE: Folklorico Dances
- Kayla Redner, DRE: My Love for Roblox
- Sophia Casanova, DRE: Cheer-tastic!
- Brittany Rivera, DRE: Problems with Animal Destruction
- Evelyn Quintero, DRE: My Passion for Gymnastics
- Malaki Garcia, DRE: Mice Have Feelings Too
- Austine Fornal. LFHS: The Crossroads of Currency
- Manuel Bocanegra, LFU: Music is Dying
- Maria Lomas, LFU: My Special Family
- Emmanuel Chavez, LFU: The Importance of Happiness
