Early Voting for May 5 Election Ends

Early voting for the May 5 elections for two trustee seats with Texas Southmost College and for two board members with the Brownsville Navigation District ended Tuesday, May 1.
Among the candidates is a resident of Los Fresnos.
Four candidates are running for two places on the TSC board and five others are running for two seats on the BND board.
Running for TSC Place 6 are: J.J. De Leon Jr., Reynaldo Garcia and Carlos Rios.
Eva Alejandro is running in Place 7.
For BND commissioner in Place 2, John Wood, the incumbent, is being challenged by Cesar Lopez, while three hopefuls are running for the Place 4 seat left vacant by Carlos Masso. They are Javier Vega, Steve Guerra and Patrick Anderson.
Anderson is a teacher and band director with Los Fresnos school district.
He said he is running because he is concerned about the people’s safety and would like to make the port more accountable when it comes to handling hazardous materials.
Local voters cast their ballots at Los Fresnos Community Center.
In another political races, early voting for the May 14 run-off will take place May 14 through May 18.
Six people are running for three seats.
State Rep. Rene Oliveira, who is seeking another two year term in District 27, is being challenged by Alex Dominguez.
In the 197th State District Court race, Masso (the BND commissioner) is running against Adolfo Cordova of Santa Monica.
And for the justice of the peace seat in Precinct 2, Place 2, Javier Reyna is facing Jonathan Gracia.
