For the 16th straight year, the Los Fresnos High School Navy Junior ROTC has been designated as a Distinguished Unit by the U.S. Navy.

The designation as Distinguished Unit with Academic Honors is the seventh time. For the other nine recognitions, the Unit has been designated as Distinguished Unit.

The Unit has reached the State Finals every year since the Unit was activated in 2003. LFHS was named Best Unit in Texas in 2015.

The NJROTC Distinguished Unit designation is awarded annually to schools whose NJROTC programs rank in the top 30 percent of the units in Texas.

“We are extremely proud of the hard work and dedication of the cadets and the entire company have put forth,” Major David Arjona said.

The inspection done in February drew praise from the Area Ten Guest Inspector. He wrote:

“The Unit exceeded my overall expectations! The NJROTC instructors were professional, dedicated and committed to the success of the program. That finding is based on my interaction with the instructors themselves as well as through direct conversation and interaction with the cadets as well. The appearance and performance of the Cadets was exemplary.”

This award recognizes Navy JROTC units that have performed well who have demonstrated high proficiency in the following categories: administration, academic performance, military drill and proficiency and host school support.
