Some businesses come and go like the wind, others survive tough economic times or other adversities.
Los Fresnos Tips & Clips Beauty Salon is one of the latter.
The shop had just completed its 17th year this month cutting hair and doing manicure and pedicure work for what appeared to be a faithful clientele.
Delia Ruiz, the business owner, said she first had the shop next to Subway and relocated to its current location at 717 W. Ocean Blvd. two years ago.
“I was the only one working here when I opened the shop,” she said. “As time went by I started hiring one beautician and another and another.”
Today, Ruiz said she has about 10 employees and plans to buy the complex where Tips $ Clips is at.
She said two or three beauty shops were in business in 2000 in Los Fresnos, compared to 14 or so today.
“Business has been good for me,” Ruiz said. “Thanks God!”
Roberto Garcia, a faithful customer, said he has been getting his hair cut since he moved to Los Fresnos 14 years ago.
Los Fresnos Mayor Polo Narvaez and chamber of commerce officials attended a brief ceremony to thank and to wish more luck for Ruiz’s many years as a member of the local business community.
