Two new free standing emergency room facilities have opened as part of Valley Baptist Medical Center’s ongoing effort to expand its operations in Cameron County.
One of them opened in Brownsville on Dec. 1 at 2073 E. Ruben Torres Blvd. and the second on Dec. 8 in Harlingen at 1725 N. Ed Carey Dr.
Estefaniia Alamillo, a company employee at the Brownsville ER, said they can handle most emergency situations and will take in transients providing the ER coverage from their insurance providers.
‘We have a staff of four in this facility,” she said. “We also have a medical doctor on site 24/7.”
Valley Baptist Health Systems bought the building from Neighbors ER.
Brandon Mohler strategy officer with VBHS, said each ER has seven rooms readily available for any lifesaving issues.
Dawn LeRoy, chief nursing officer at VBMC-Brownsville, said the opening of the ER here is part of their ongoing process to continue improving their health care services in the area.
She said the new ER is in a part of Brownsville that has been growing rapidly.
