Spring Break 2019 is here and for some people that means additional work.
Although area students took their spring recess last week, this week is equally busy as other schools, colleges and universities are off this week.
And for Los Fresnos Police Department the month of March is one of the years busiest.
Thousands of vehicles cruise along Texas Highway 100 on their way to or from South Padre Island, one of the country’s major destinations.
Police Chief Hector Gonzalez said drivers should take some precautions.
“Don’t drink and drive,” he said. “Obey the laws.”
Gonzalez said anyone, whether from the Rio Grande Valley or from other Texas areas, should have a designated driver if they happen to drink booze.
”Stay over on the Island,” he advises people. “Be responsible.”
Gonzalez said twice as many officers will be on duty during spring break.
“So far, so good,” he said. “Traffic has been picking up but it has been kind of quiet. Let’s keep it like that.”
