Educating their children in a home setting has been a priority for a Laguna Vista couple who believe in the benefit of home schooling.
And for Adam and Cara Lalonde that has paid off.

Their children Ava, Aiden, and Beckett have earned top honors from the Private Schools Interscholastic Association statewide academic competition.

PSIA is a non –profit education organization that serves all privately-schooled students from first through eighth grades.
Cara Lalonde has been educating their children at home since each child was a toddler while her husband has been working as a dentist at the Los Fresnos Dental Center.

Just last week, their children received the top honors in a number of areas they competed against students taught at home.

The competition included mathematics, creative writing, vocabulary and listening skills.

“I feel really great,” Ava, who is 12 years old said, after learning of the award.

“I am proud of mom and dad,” her 10 years old sibling, Aiden, said.

Adam Lalonde, a Canadian native, said they moved to this part of the United States to live near the water and ended up settling in Laguna Vista.

He said he and his wife opened the dental clinic 13 years ago and as time went by, they expanded the business hiring 13 employees today.

The Lalonde children won the competition after they previously took top honors in a regional event held earlier this year in McAllen.
