Craving for some food made from nothing but fresh ingredients?
If so, head out to Parra’s Tamales.
As the city’s newest eatery, the Mexican-styled food restaurant specializes in tamales but it has a variety of dishes with a touch of food typical of the Mexican states of Tlaxcala and Veracruz.
However, its tamales is what makes Parra’s a food an attraction for those who enjoy the corn husk wrapped food.
The restaurant has the usual chicken and pork tamales but it goes beyond that as it has taken its tamales business a notch up.
For those who prefer no meat, some tamales are made using cream cheese, spinach, beans and jalapenos and even Cheetos – yes Cheetos.
Angel Alarcon, the shop’s owner, said his wife, Marisela, came out with a recipe in which the crunchy snack is crushed and mix with masa.
“Each and every one of our tamales are made from scratch,” he said, “so are the other meals we have.”
Alarcon said Parra’s has breakfast, lunch and dinner in addition to its tamale plates.
It also has a drive-thru window for those on the go.
Parra’s Tamales is at the new Plaza Linda, a strip mall along FM 803 right behind the Stripes store Highway 100 east of Los Fresnos.
The Los Fresnos Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, Aug. 29 to welcome the new business in town.
