It was nearly 30 years ago when Julia Mancilla Garcia decided to take the plunge by owning and running a restaurant of her own.
So she bought Fina’s Restaurant and renamed it after herself.
Twenty eight years later, Mancilla Garcia is at the helm of one of Los Fresnos full service restaurants that offers a variety of meals. Including Mexican- and American –styled, seafood, desserts and an assortment of ice creams.
“I have been running Julia’s since 1991,” she said during another anniversary of the restaurant. “It was on November Fourth of that year.”
And to mark the anniversary, customers were treated to a few snacks for most of the day.
A table was set up on the side of the eatery. It had a birthday cake, muffins, buñuelos, cookies and coffees.
The restauranteur said she has been working in the gastronomy industry since she was 17.
She worked for Frankie‘s , Gulf Romero’s, Pancho Herrera No.2 and Silver Wood Kitchen restaurants.
During Julia’s celebration, Pastor Feliberto Pereira gave a speech commending Mancilla for her hard work and dedication as a member of the local business community.
“I have known Julia for many years,” he said. “I admire her for her dedication and for her service to the community.
Mancilla said she wouldn’t be where she is today if it wasn’t for the support she has had from the community, the out-of-town visitors and from her family as well.
She said she would like to thank everybody who has supported her business – her clientele, the Los Fresnos Chamber of Commerce, the Community Development Corp. and the City of Los Fresnos.
