Eight LFHS Students Make All-Region Band

Eight Los Fresnos High School students have qualified for the are band competition during auditions held Dec. 6 in Harlingen.

The compete will compete in the Texas Music Educators Association Area G Band Auditions to be held Jan. 11 at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, which is the audition for students to earn spots in the All-State Band.

The eight students who have qualified for All-Area are:

Area Band and Orchestra

  • Ileana Castillo, flute
  • Aracely Garcia, bassoon
  • Horacio Mendez, flute
  • Alexander Olguin, tenor saxophone
  • Crystal Ortiz, horn
  • Ben Ramirez, tuba
  • Clarisse Tudon, clarinet
  • Favian Zuniga, trumpet

Ramirez also auditioned on Jazz Bass Guitar and made it to Area, where he recorded for the All-State Jazz Band Audition. He placed 5th in the State on jazz bass guitar, but only the top two finishers advance.

Making the All-Region Jazz Band were:

  • Benjamin Ramirez, bass guitar
  • Favian Zuniga, trumpet
  • Jason Randolph, trumpet
  • Reagan Kretz, drums
  • Alexander Olguin, tenor saxophone

Making the All-Region Orchestra were:

  • Ileana Castillo, flute
  • Yahir Hernandez, percussion
  • Connor Sponsler, violin

Qualifying for the All-Region Band were:
