The Los Fresnos Lady Falcons basketball team is advancing to the second round of the UIL state playoffs for the first time in five years after beating Edinburg Vela 48-37 in a Class 6A bi-district playoff contest on Tuesday night at the Lady Falcons gym.
The Lady Falcons have been on a hot streak lately, winning their last three straight including a 60-44 seeding playoff game on Feb. 15 against Harlingen South that secured them the No. 2 seed out of District 32-6A.
Up next for the team is an area-round content against Laredo United which was set for Feb. 21 at Corpus Christi Ray High School. The Lady Falcons faced off against United in a non-district away game earlier this season. In that contest, the Lady Longhorns defeated Los Fresnos 53-34.
United is the top seed out of District 29-6A and easily beat McAllen Rowe 57-24 in its bi-district playoff game.
