LOS FRESNOS – Despite the COVID-19 pandemic interfering with the 2019-20 school year, the graduating class of Los Fresnos High School may still get a chance to celebrate in style.
On April 6, Los Fresnos CISD Superintendent Gonzalo Salazar sent a letter to the parents of the Class of 2020, informing them that the district is considering three alternate dates for holding a graduation ceremony in the event graduation cannot be held on May 30 as scheduled.
The three dates include Saturday, June 20, Saturday, July 18, and Saturday, Aug. 8. The times for all three dates would be at 7 p.m. and all would be held at Leo Aguilar Memorial Stadium.
The dates are each subject to the lifting of the shelter-in-place order that Cameron County recently extended through April 21.
Salazar stated that he fully understands the importance of holding a commencement ceremony for the Class of 2020 as the event marks the beginning of the next chapter of their lives.
“We look forward to honoring our graduates for what they have achieved and the manner in which they have represented their families, their school and the community,” he said in the letter. “We thank you for your patience as we navigate through these trying times but most of all we thank you for sharing your children with us.”
