LOS FRESNOS – Many schools across the country are trying to be creative with how they are holding graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2020 and Laureles Elementary in Los Fresnos was no different.

On Tuesday, May 26, principal Claudia Larrasquitu and staff created a sense of accomplishment in this difficult time by holding a graduation ceremony for fifth graders who will be moving on to middle school next school year.
To ensure safety for all attendees, the non-traditional ceremony was held as a drive-through event.

Laureles students lined up on the parkway in the front of the school. The students and their families were advised to remain comfortably in their vehicles as teachers and other staff members cheerfully greeted and applauded the students as they drove by the front of the school.

With the students still in their vehicles, the school staff handed them goodie bags filled with all kinds of treats and personal gifts. As the families drove out of the parking lot, each student had the chance to pose in front of a custom-made graduation sign that the school staff made for the special occasion.
